Meet Youri Desrosiers, Sr. Network Consultant, CCIE – Collaboration, 2019 Greyson Game Changer recipient, and our 2020 Q1 MVP award recipient! Youri is well known for his excellence and help first attitude. Here’s what some of the team had to say about him:
“His work ethic is the best I have seen in a long time.”
“Great work ethic, great attitude, and just a wonderful person!”
“Youri’s dedication to excellence is outstanding. He’s an awesome guy. Always willing to help out and is an excellent engineer and peer.”
1. What brought you to Greyson? Why did you want to work here?
I had worked at a couple of different companies and found I was always on my own. There was no one I could bounce ideas off of. Then I met Danny Durrance, Elliot Dierksen, and Greg Nordone. The way I was able to collaborate with them was one of the reasons I made the choice to leave the corporate world and join Greyson. I now work alongside a group of smart and talented individuals and a strong team that supports each other.
2. What led you to a career in IT?
Before I got into IT, I was a manager at a movie theater. I had been working there since I was 16 years old. There was a couple that would come in every Friday night to see a movie. One night, the woman approached me and told me that every time she came to the theater, she saw me on the computer. She asked me what I was doing working there when it was clear I should be working with computers–something like IT. After that night, everything changed for me. It pushed me to go into IT. I started learning about different operating systems, different silos. I just kept wanting to learn more and more. The rest is history.
3. What do you enjoy most about what you do?
Integrating technology with the real world is fascinating to me. With that comes some challenges, but I’m not one to back down. I love a good challenge!
4. Which of our core values resonates with you most and why? (Help First, Fun, Pride, Committed, Courage)
Help First. It’s just a natural attitude that I have. I want to help people and I want to do it well. Courage and Fun also resonate with me. Having the courage to dive in and try new things is important.
5. Who inspires you and why?
Michael Jordan. Seeing his drive and determination to succeed is inspiring. He set out to be the best in everything he did. It makes me try to do the best that I can in all I do.
6. What’s one thing not many people know about you?
I’m very competitive. I don’t show it but if I’m not first, I’m not happy. I hate to lose.
7. What do you enjoy doing most outside of the office?
Hanging out and laughing with my family, stopping to smell the roses, and researching different things.
8. What’s the best advice you’ve been given in your career?
“Just because you know how to do everything, doesn’t mean you need to be the first person to raise your hand every time.”
9. If you could have dinner with anyone (past or present), who would you choose and why?
President Obama. The way he speaks and articulates things just inspires you to take action. I find him to be a very interesting person. I’d love to sit down and have a conversation with him.
10. What’s your beef with Yoda? (Note: Youri has been known to have a disdain for all things Star Wars, particularly Yoda and R2-D2. We’re working on it.)
Kermit the frog? I see him sitting with his cane, looking frail like he can barely move and suddenly he’s fighting someone, beating them up. Then out of nowhere, he goes back to being frail carrying a cane. What’s that about!? Come on! That’s why he became Kermit the Frog to me. Also, I’m more of a Star Trek fan. Star Trek rules!!!
